About Your Angiotensin Receptor Blockers

It’s easy to identify whether you are taking an angiotensin receptor blocker. This class of antihypertensives have names that end in –sartan. These drugs include:

  • candesartan
  • eprosartan
  • irbesartan
  • losartan
  • olmesartan
  • telmisartan
  • valsartan

They're an alternative to another class of antihypertensive – the ACE Inhibitors.

Here are some things you should know about your ARB.

  • It shouldn't cause a cough like its closest alternative, the ACE Inhibitor.
  • You should take the medication at the same time each day.
  • You should avoid sudden changes in position to avoid sudden hypotension and lightheadedness
  • It may cause dizziness.
