Tips for Resistance Training

Build a Strong & Resilient Body

Resistance training with weights, exercise machines, bands or even your own body weight can make you stronger, reduce pain, strengthen your bones and your balance. It can, however, cause a temporary, but significant increase in blood pressure.

If you're at all worried about the risks associated with this increase, here are some tips.

  • Use lighter weights – straining increases blood pressure. You can compensate by doing more repetitions.
  • Don't hold your breath while straining – it will pump up your blood pressure.
  • Make sure you use the correct form – it will give maximum results and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Be aware of how your body is reacting to the exercise – you shouldn't feel dizziness, chest pain or heaviness.
